If you are like most people in the world today you drink coffee at coffee shops. Now there is nothing wrong with enjoying a cup of coffee once in a while but if you want to know how to save money fast have a think about this.
At one time I was drinking a Starbucks Venti Latte once a day (and bear in mind that it wasn’t only the coffee it was the cakes and all the other things that you get drawn into buying when you are there.) And one day I did a little calculation and was shocked to find out the result of my latte habit.
Three dollars forty times once a day for fifty two weeks of the year. It’s a rough calculation but I realized I was spending in excess of $800 a year on this frothy white coffee! Do you know how much I would have if I saved that money? If I put away $800 a year for thirty years and was getting 5% I would have $55,000 in the end! $55,000 on coffee!
And of course the coffee is not going to stay at that price. Inflation will make it way more over time so the dollar amount I am essentially throwing away will be a lot more. And think about this. If I actually did my homework and invested that money wisely so I was getting 8% interest I would end up with $100,000. What do you think I did with my fancy coffee habit? That’s right, I make my own coffee now.
How to Save Money Fast with a Lifestyle Change
Think about your lifestyle is linked to how to save money fast. Even if you don’t drink coffee at Starbucks I bet there are a lot of things that you spend money on that are basically unnecessary luxuries that you could easily do without. I’ll bet there are loads of little savings you could make and that your lifestyle wouldn’t really change that much.
Think about the money you can save on a monthly and yearly basis. Don’t think about it as a $4 cup of coffee. With that money you could literally retire early or have a much better life when you eventually do hang up the work boots.
Do you buy bottled water? Do you smoke cigarettes? Do you drink beer? Do you play the lottery? Now don’t get me wrong I am not suggesting you give up all the luxuries of modern life. Let me tell you I love a cold beer now and then but I thought about the amount of cash I was blowing on drinking too and I felt sick. So I drink a lot less and this of course is good for my health. This knock on to reducing the money I spend on medical bills. It’s great!
What you need to do is write down everything you spend money on. You will easily identify how to save money fast when you do this as the places where your money is leaking away will be staring back at you in black and white. You will quickly be able to see the future worth of the savings you make.
About the Author
Make a list of what is necessary and what is not. Areas to focus on how to save money fast include eating out, daily snacks between meals, convenience store purchases, credit card interest and cable TV. These items can easily be clipped from your expenses.
From here on you will start to look at spending in a different way. You will learn how to save money everywhere. The future is bright for those who save.
